Nursery

Babies are like the raw material. They are born with so much potential and promise which develops in relation to the people and environment they are in. Like a seedling they depend on others to manage things for them at first, supplying what they need, and helping them understand what they are feeling.  The nursery setting is very important in this process in terms of providing a space and opportunity to nurture that new individual.

Observations

Observations can be helpful where concerns are raised about a particular child’s development, emotional coping, or socialization. With parents consent the child can be observed and assessed in the nursery setting and advice and guidance implemented to support them. It is often important to involve parents in this process so that they can also use the same strategies at home, providing the child with important consistency.

Consultation

This can be a short piece of work focused around a theme that may be affecting the staff group or as a more regular slot. These can then be used for whatever seems most pressing at the time:

Having a Clinical Psychologist connected to the nursery can be seen to highlight the importance the nursery is placing on the emotional well-being of their children and can be evidence to Ofsted of this. It can also be advertised to parents of the evidence based practice and level of support being provided to their children.
